Report: First Direct Talks Between Iran and Israel Since 1979

Um, that would be, like, bizarrely good news:

A representative of the Israel Atomic Energy Commission and a senior Iranian official met last month to discuss the chances of declaring the Middle East a nuclear-free zone, Haaretz has learned. This is the first direct meeting between official representatives of the two states since the fall of the Shah in 1979.

Iranian officials are denying the story, it must be noted, but Haaretz is sticking to the story - saying the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission has confirmed that the meeting took place.

On a related note: Dick Cheny is incompetent. And an asshole.
