Immigrants Making U.S. Safer?

Even undocumented immigrants?!? Modern Republican head asplosion in 10, 9, 8, 7...

So how has this city of poor immigrants become such an anomaly? Actually, it may not be an anomaly at all. Many criminologists say El Paso isn't safe despite its high proportion of immigrants, it's safe because of them.

"If you want to find a safe city, first determine the size of the immigrant population," says Jack Levin, a criminologist at Northeastern University in Massachusetts. "If the immigrant community represents a large proportion of the population, you're likely in one of the country's safer cities. San Diego, Laredo, El Paso—these cities are teeming with immigrants, and they're some of the safest places in the country."

Deported...By Hospital Officials

Not by government officials, but hospital officials:

Eight years ago, Mr. Jiménez, 35, an illegal immigrant working as a gardener in Stuart, Fla., suffered devastating injuries in a car crash with a drunken Floridian. A community hospital saved his life, twice, and, after failing to find a rehabilitation center willing to accept an uninsured patient, kept him as a ward for years at a cost of $1.5 million.

What happened next set the stage for a continuing legal battle with nationwide repercussions: Mr. Jiménez was deported — not by the federal government but by the hospital, Martin Memorial. After winning a state court order that would later be declared invalid, Martin Memorial leased an air ambulance for $30,000 and “forcibly returned him to his home country,” as one hospital administrator described it.

He can't use his legs, now has "routine violent seizures," and receives no medical care medication.

This is a serious and fairly widespread problem, apparently, and you can understand the very simple financial issues. But no matter where you come down on the issue of illegal immigration this should make you crazy. If hospital bill collectors can deport people, who can't do it? Landlords? A car shop?

And get this: The people they "repatriate" aren't always here illegally:

Other hospitals are more aggressive, routinely sending uninsured immigrants, both legal and illegal, back to their homelands. One Tucson hospital even tried to fly an American citizen, a sick baby whose parents were illegal immigrants, to Mexico last year; the police, summoned by a lawyer to the airport, blocked the flight. “It was horrendous,” the mother said.

Hey - maybe they'll do it to you someday, if you can't pay your bill.

Undocumented Immigrant Murdered in Penn. [Updtd]

Three teenagers charged with the murder of 25-year-old Luis Ramirez.

Three white teens were charged Friday in what officials said was an epithet-filled fatal beating of an illegal Mexican immigrant in a small northeast Pennsylvania coal town.

The FBI's Hate Crime Statistics page, with yearly reports.

Update: Amy Good man interviewed an eyewitness (transcript):

ARIELLE GARCIA: He was at our house all day that afternoon. And it was around maybe 11:00, he asked us to take him uptown to drop him off, whatever, he was going to go home. So, we leave him at the Vine Street Park, and we drive away, Victor and I, and about two minutes later he called us and told us to come back, that people were beating him up. So we get back as fast as we could. And when we get there, he was—like the fight was over, like the boys were walking away, but they were still screaming like racial slurs, like “Go back to Mexico!”

And so, Victor and I ran up to Luis, and we said, “What happened?” But he was so mad, he wasn’t really talking to us. And those kids kept yelling stuff, and he went back, and the kids turned around, and the fight started again. So Victor, my husband, tried to like stop the fight. He tried to get the kids off of Luis, but kids were trying to fight my husband. So my husband got the kids off of him, and we couldn’t stop the fight between Luis and the—but next thing we know, Luis was on the floor. And so, me and Victor, we ran up to his side, and we were at his side. We were trying to wake him up, and the kids are still like kicking him and kicking him. And somebody—I don’t know who, but they kicked him like in the left side of his head so hard that that’s what killed him.

Drugged Without Reason For Deportation

How much shit like this has to happen before Americans want their country back from these wanna be Baby Docs?

The government's forced use of antipsychotic drugs, in people who have no history of mental illness, includes dozens of cases in which the "pre-flight cocktail," as a document calls it, had such a potent effect that federal guards needed a wheelchair to move the slumped deportee onto an airplane.

We haven't even begun to get to the bottom of the shit these people unleashed in eight years.

Filipino-American Sentenced for Espionage

For some time now Michelle Malkin (née Maglalang) has been helping keep America safe from murderous hordes of foreigners by alerting us every time she hears about a horrendous crime committed by an illegal alien.

You may find that bizarre and deceiving and dangerously inflammatory, and so forth, since horrendous crimes are obviously often committed by people who aren't illegal aliens. Jeffrey Dahmer, for example, was not an illegal alien. Nor was John Wayne Gacy, or Timothy McVeigh, just to give a few examples from the Horrendous Hall of Fame. Given such an obvious truth, you might say that attempting to make a connection between illegal aliens and horrendous crimes makes as much sense as attempting to make a connection between white American citizens and horrendous crimes. Or Filipino-Americans and horrendous crimes.

But you would be deceiving yourself with clearheaded thinking and logic and other such Liberal nonsense.

With all that in mind, I would like to begin to do my part to make America more safe by alerting you, on a regular basis, to crimes committed by Filipino-Americans, which might or might not happen a lot more often than you think. Even crimes like the ultra-unAmerican - espionage.

More to come.

THE BROWN PEOPLE ARE TAKING OVER!!!

CNN [and the Associated Press] gets out their freak machine.

This kind of stuff fuels such emlightened forays of the soul as the recent National Review cruise:

The conversation ebbs back to friendly chit-chat. So, you're a European, one of the Park Avenue ladies says, before offering witty commentaries on the cities she's visited. Her companion adds, "I went to Paris, and it was so lovely." Her face darkens: "But then you think – it's surrounded by Muslims. " The first lady nods: "They're out there, and they're coming."

Keeping Immigration in the News

That's what things like this will always be about. Until someone said to make this an issue, knowing that the naturally xenophobic and fearfully racist would bite on it like carp on garbage, illegal immigration would be the backwater issue it always has.
