We Ain't Seen No U.S. Attorney Scandal Yet [Update x2]

LATE UPDATE - Friday night at the News Dump: Gonzales aide Monica "The 5th" Goodling to resign. Letter of resignation noted here, and ooooh, she is not a happy camper:

"I am hereby submitting my resignation to the office of attorney general," Monica M. Goodling said in a three-sentence letter. There was no immediate reason given, but her refusal to face Congress had intensified a controversy that threatens Gonzales' job.

Three quick sentences? Was she being pressured too hard by team Rove and Gonzales to take a fall? We'll see.-- Oop, guess not. "May God bless your richly as you continue your service to America," the letter ends, according to FOX.

Hey! Maybe God can bless Gonzales with the ability to tell the truth! In front of everybody! Testify!

LATE UPDATE II:You're not off the hook yet.

TPM digging yet deeper. Now about U.S. Attorney Rachel Paulose of the District of Minnesota, appointed in February, 2006.

That was long before the current USAt. firing scandal. And her placement: after another resignation, of USAt. Tom Heffelfinger. Seems there's a revolt in her office:

Now the local CBS affiliate seems to have the scoop. Apparently, the Gonzales Justice Department, already embroiled in a rapidly escalating scandal, was so worried about another shoe dropping (okay, more bad publicity) that they sent an emissary to the local office to beg the four to stay put.

The "four" being members of her top staff.

It’s a major shakeup at the offices of new U.S. Attorney Rachel Paulose.

Four of her top staff voluntarily demoted themselves Thursday, fed up with Paulose, who, after just months on the job, has earned a reputation for quoting Bible verses and dressing down underlings.

It's John Ashcroft in drag.

Another update from TPM here.

And yet more about the Rachel Paulose appointment. And an interview with Paulose showing that she's a graduate of the Condoleezza Rice school of public speaking. Here's here's Part 2. Highlights: Pornography and terrorism. The buried aces in the Texas Hold'em game of Modern Republican politics.

The fired USAt., Tom Heffelfinger in his own words on March 13. And in his own words on March 23.

And even more at DKos.
