Bill Requires S. Carolinians to View Troop Coffins Before Supporting War

From the LTBS News Service:

COLUMBIA, SC: With calls of emotional blackmail from opponents, a measure requiring South Carolinians supporting the Iraq War to first review images of troop coffins advanced Wednesday in the South Carolina Legislature.

"I'm just trying to save lives and protect people from regret and inform citizens with the most accurate non-judgmental information that can be provided," Rep. Greg Delleney, R-Chester, said.

Delleney is the main sponsor of the amendment.

"From the calls I've gotten, I think some people wished there was a coffin-reviewing requirement at the time they first supported the war," he said.

Currently, the Pentagon does not allow Americans to see photos of troop coffins. President Bush supports that policy, saying the families of fallen troops have the right to privacy.
