I never got there, but I did stay at the Burmese temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India, in 1987 & 8. They rented tiny rooms, kept for Burmese Buddhist pilgrims to that holiest of Buddhist towns, for 5 rupees (fifty cents or so). Wooden bed, no mattress, thankfully with a mosquito net. The monks would sit and smoke cigars with us outside the temple.
We had a huge and very festive Christmas dinner on top of that temple in 1987. (Possibly, or probably, refurbished since then. It had a flat section of roof at the time.) Very special memories.
Health and happiness to the people of Burma.
