This afternoon I went to the emergency room of the Centre Hospitalier National d'Ophtalmologie des Quinze-Vingts in Paris, France. It's a hospital that specializes in eye problems. I had to have emergency eye surgery on the spot. With the national debate on health care raging in Washington, it seemed timely to share my story.
It's a great read. And say this to yourself several times: Emergency eye surgery - no wait, no "rationing" - for a total cost of $172. That's in a country that has terribly scary, universal, primarily government-funded health care. Just guess at what a similar thing would cost here - even if you had insurance, in many cases. The emergency room visit alone would likely be twice as much. The surgery? Maybe ten times as much?
Insurance companies and their stooges in Congress - and on the radio and Fox news - are trying to trick you out of something that could profoundly change the life of you and everyone around you for the better. Don't let them.
